She sets the strategy & vision for Spritz & leads investor relations.
How important were the Angel investments to your success?
Critical. Spritz would've never moved further than an idea without venture capital that was willing to support testing our hypothesis.
What advice would you give business owners that are seeking Angel Investments? Communicate very early on what traction/market sizes/opportunities you are pursuing. Share what the capital is going to be used for, what milestone you're going to hit with it, what question you're trying to answer. Be clear what will also happen after the question gets answered - do you pivot? shut down? expand? Ensure everyone understands that pre-seed angel investments are as high risk/high reward as they come - the odds are likely that the capital will never produce a return, but if it does, it'll be a 100x. The pressure of taking people's money is extremely heavy - don't underestimate the toll it can take on mental/emotional wellbeing.
At what point in your business did you feel your business was ready for Angel investments?
After substantial market research and feeling like that was a valid idea worth pursuing, I sought out angel investments to execute on the strategy to move us towards our next major milestone - testing product/market fit through pilot accounts. This is only possible with working capital for cash flow and investment capital for customer acquisition testing.
Do you think Angels have an important place in the startup ecosystem? Why? Absolutely. Early capital in that doesn't come with lots of complicated power/governance input is necessary to be able to move the company nimbly through the early phase when so many questions have to be answered and you are testing dozens of tactics simultaneously.
